Set up cartridges are the starter cartridges that are included with a brand new printer and are used to set up the printer for the first time.  Most set up cartridges include less ink or toner than any standard cartridge you would find online or in a store, so they will print less pages.

The Setup/Start-up ink cartridges that came with the printer must be used to set up the printer for the first time. Setup ink cartridges are specially designed to set up and calibrate ink levels on a new printer.

Once one of these cartridges needs replacing we advise that you replace all of the cartridges, as setup/start-up cartridges cannot always be used with new cartridges.  This is why they are not fully filled, as there is usually a requirement to discard a certain amount of ink/toner.

It is also advised that when replacing the setup/start-up ink you do a hard reset on the printer.  This is an easy process – all you need to do is remove all cartridges from the printer, leave the printer turned on, and whilst the printer is turned on unplug the printer at the wall for approximately 3-4 minutes.
